The association of nasopharyngeal carcinoma with Ebstein Barr virus is supported by:
The presence of a humoral immune response in patient with NPC against EBV determined antigens including the structural antigens such as the viral capsid antigens (VCA), early antigens (EA) and nuclear antigen (EBNA)
The presence of EB viral makers, EB viral DNA and nuclear antigens in NPC tumours cells. However EBV have yet to be observed in nasopharyngeal carcinoma cells from biopsy samples.
